xrEvidence Features
- xrEvidence is designed following the best
business practices as outlined in the standards ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
- xrEvidence is designed for users familiar
with MS Windows and MS Office products. The program can be used with little
or no training. Familiar and intuitive menus and icons make it easy to start
using xrEvidence. The tree-like navigator (similar to Windows Navigator)
makes it easy to find and access the records.
- A uniform look and feel throughout the
program makes it easy to use and understand how it works.
- xrEvidence has multi-window graphical user
interface (GUI), which makes it easy to navigate between various windows.
- xrEvidence provides a list of open
windows, which makes it easy to switch between windows.
- Many tables and dropdown fields are created
to accommodate the data as described in various standards: ISO 3166 for
Country Codes, ISO 4217 for currency codes, USPS State Codes, Canada Post
Province and Territory Codes, etc.
- xrEvidence remembers individual settings
of each user; when a user resizes a window or changes the width of a column,
etc., the system will remember the user's preferences.
- xrEvidence easily integrates with MS
Office products, such as MS Word and MS Excel.
- xrEvidence uses MS SQL Server 2000 as a
database server. xrEvidence is created on a highly normalized database
structure. Database tables and records are available to the Clients for
building custom logic, reports, export/import capabilities, integrated
solutions, etc.
- xrEvidence can automatically download
updates from a designated network or Internet location when they become
available. The automatic updates from the Internet are performed via
built-in support of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) in the program. These automatic updates dramatically simplify
deployment management of new versions of the software, reports, etc.
- xrEvidence has built-in support for export
capabilities to various formats including Tab-delimited text, MS Excel,
Extensible Markup Language (XML), and Advanced Data Tablegram (ADTG).
- The screens for individual records make it
easy to navigate among the fields using the Tab or Enter key without relying
on the mouse. The background of the fields is highlighted when cursor
is in the field, which allows the user to see clearly where she/he is
typing.
- All dropdown fields come with the support
of soundex functionality. Often typing a single letter will populate the
field with a desirable value. This dramatically speeds up the entry of the
records.
- New records may be created using existing
records as a template (so called record duplication or "cloning"), which
substantially speeds up the entry of the records.
- All dropdown fields provide ability to add,
edit, delete, or search related records. A look-up screen can be opened from
all dropdown fields.
- When a user types a value in a dropdown
field that the system does not recognize, the system will automatically
offer the user to create a new record in a dropdown list (of course, if the
user has appropriate permissions).
- Many dropdown fields have various shortcuts
to enter the values. Typing a payroll number in an Employee field will
populate it with the full record (first name, last name, and payroll number
of the employee), typing "codes" in the fields will bring up the full record
(e.g. CA => California), typing barcode value in the fields will bring up
the full record, typing "me" in an Employee field, will automatically
populate the field with the first name, last name, and payroll number of
this employee, etc.
- All screens in xrEvidence are
interconnected user can open screens for related records "with the click
of a button."
- xrEvidence allows collection of detailed
information about evidence items, including property category and type,
manufacturer and model, year made, color, serial number / VIN (Vehicle ID
Number), UPC (Universal Product Code), currency type and amount, narcotic
type, special warnings, etc.
- Items can be combined in batches for easier
and faster processing. Most transactions / transfers can be performed on
item, case, and batch levels. The items can be disposed, audited, etc. in
batches. This saves a substantial amount of time for the employees and
reduces the chance of error.
- Multiple files can be associated with a
case or item record, including an item's digital image or scans of police
reports. The images can be viewed within the program.
- Data in table "Locations" is organized in a
tree-like structure. The user may create a virtually unlimited hierarchy of
locations and sub-locations (buildings, rooms, lockers, safes,
refrigerators, shelves, bins, etc.).
- Data in table "Models" is organized in a
tree-like structure. The user may create a virtually unlimited hierarchy of
manufacturers, brands, models, variations, etc.
- The search screens of xrEvidence provide a
simple mechanism for sorting the records by clicking on the header of the
column in the list of records.
- The data from any search screen can be
exported to MS Excel in one click. MS Excel spreadsheet is set up to provide
further search, sorting, filtering, and analyses of the data.
- xrEvidence generates reports in MS Word,
MS Excel, Text, and Crystal Reports. The data from Crystal Reports can be
further exported to a large list of data formats, including PDF, Text, MS
Excel, Lotus, various ODBC-complaint databases, RTF, MS Word, XML, etc.
- The screens can be easily moved around by
holding and dragging them by any "gray space" (any space without enabled
fields or buttons). This allows for quick access to the underlying forms.
- Required fields are preceded by labels in
bold text. Non-applicable fields appear disabled (gray).
- xrEvidence generates barcodes in Code 3 of
9 (Code 39) format.
- xrEvidence can recognize barcodes in Code
39, Code 39 Check, Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF), 2 of 5, Code 93, Codabar,
EAN-8, EAN-8 + 2, EAN-8 + 5, EAN-13, EAN-13 + 2, EAN-13 + 5, UPC-A, UPC-A +
2, UPC-A + 5, UPC-E, UPC-E + 2, UPC-E + 5, Code-128 A, Code-128 B, Code-128
C, EAN-128 A, EAN-128 B, and EAN-128 C formats.
- User can print and scan barcodes for items,
cases, batches, locations, employees, and notifications.
- Barcodes can be collected remotely and
uploaded to the system.
- The fields that normally accept scans from
the barcode reader are preceded by an icon showing a scanned barcode
.
- All text and dropdown fields can accept
input from a barcode scanner.
- The system comes with barcode fonts, which
can be used in various programs, such as MS Word, MS Excel, etc. Users can
create and print documents with any text in a barcode form. For example
commonly used values can be printed in a barcode form and later scanned into
the system when needed. This dramatically reduces the amount of typing
required by the user.
- The system supports a wide range of barcode
scanners/readers, which include laser, CCD, and Imagers; handheld and
stationary; gun and pen/wand; wired, mobile/cordless (e.g. IrDA - The
Infrared Data Association), and wireless (e.g. BlueTooth, 802.11); connected
via serial port (RS-232), keyboard wedge, and USB; with trigger button and
auto-scans (hands-free); contact and non-contact; data collectors; etc.
Barcode scanner/reader hardware driver may be required.
- The amount of information that can be saved
in the database is "mind-boggling." More than 2 billion (232)
records can be saved in each table.
